SONCAP Certification in Nigeria

The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) is the Nigerian government agency responsible for setting and enforcing quality standards for imported and locally manufactured goods.
In order to ensure the control products meet has obtained the country technical standard or other international standards, to protect consumers from unsafe products in Nigeria or do not conform to the standard product damage, Nigeria's national bureau decided to restrictions on exports to the country's products to implement mandatory conformity assessment procedure before shipment (hereinafter referred to as "SONCAP").
 

After many years of SONCAP implementation in Nigeria, the new SONCAP policy will be implemented on April 1, 2013 according to the latest notification, which is a significant change compared to the previous SONCAP policy.
Exporters will no longer apply for SONCAP for each shipment, but instead apply for COC. After getting the COC, exporters will provide it to the importer to apply for SC. SC will be directly applied by the importer at the local SONCAP institution.
In addition, on-site sampling testing, inspection and supervision are required according to the risk category of the product.

Application process for SONCAP certification in Nigeria

Step 1: Test the product

Step 2: Apply for PC(PC Application Form + Product Test Report)

Step 3: Apply FOR Form M information (Nigerian importer applies FOR foreign exchange FORM FOR MM at the Bank of Nigeria with PC certificate)

Step 4: Apply for SC (PC Certificate + Form M Information Form +SC Application Form + Invoice + PPL + B/L)
